Sakya Centre is home of Sakya Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It was started in 1964 by His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin. The Centre is a monastery which offers education in Buddhism with special emphasis on Sakya tradition of Buddhism. This registered under the Societies Registration Act of XXI of 1860. His Holiness Sakya Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche is Patron of Sakya Centre. The origin of Sakya is from the monastery founded in 1073 at Sakya (‘the place of grey earth’) in south-western Tibet by Konchog Gyalpo, a member of the Khon clan. Outside Tibet, Sakya Centre is considered as the most important monastery of His Holiness Sakya Trizin and the Sakya Lineage. The center follows annual grand DRUBCHO schedule under which various events are conducted. From the 8th day of the 1st lunar month for three days Annual Grand Vajrayogini Drubcho is organized. From the 8th of the 2nd lunar month for seven days Annual Grand Vajra Nairatmya Drubcho is arranged. During Annual Grand Mahavairocana Drubcho, changchoks meaning purifying rituals for the deceased are conducted for all the sentient beings who have passed away. This is held from the 11th of 4th lunar month for five consecutive days. During Annual Grand Vajrakilaya Drubcho, choosen monks are ranked based on their performances as chant masters leading the Vajrakilaya Drubcho. This event is arranged annually from the 11th day of the 7th lunar month for eleven consecutive days. Annual Grand Hevajra Drubcho is celebrated creating sand mandalas and offerings arranged by the Sangha; from the 13th of 9th lunar month for eight successive days. Mahakala puja also known as Dhamtsig Kangso conducted at the end of alternate lunar years, and typically go on for seven consecutive days. Annual Grand Chakrasamvara Drubcho, Dochen Drubcho, Dhus Tor or Mahakala Day, Wrathful Guru Rinpoche Drubcho are few other events by Sakya Centre Dehradoon Uttarakhand. Vajrakilaya is the main deity worshiped during Gutor. Some ritual dances are performed on this occasion. Some of these events have been blessed with presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
