Breath is life. Yoga helps us understand how to use the lungs to their maximum capacity and how to control the breath to increase vitality and enhance mental clarity. The word Pranayama comes from Sanskrit, in which “prana” means life energy, and “Yama” means control. By controlling the breath the mind gets calmed and clear and one experiences increased energy, well-being, and peace of mind. Among other asanas, pranayam too has different types like, 'Bhramari Pranayam', 'Bhastrika Pranayam', 'Ujjayi Pranayam', etc. Like the 'Benefits of Yoga' let's see some 'Benefits of Pranayama': 1. Helps in decreases stress. 2. Improves sleep quality. 3. Increases mindfulness. 4. Reduces high blood pressure. 5. Improves lung function. 6. Enhances cognitive performance. 7. Reduces cigarette cravings. The goal of pranayama is to strengthen the connection between your body and your mind. According to researches, pranayama can promote relaxation and mindfulness. It’s also proven to support multiple aspects of physical health, including the lung function, blood pressure, and the brain function. If you haven’t practiced pranayama till yet, and you wish to join a yoga class or find a mentor who can teach you the proper technique for these breathing exercises.
